All privacy and confidentiality policies will be reviewed during initial sessions. The law protects the relationship between a client and a counselor and information cannot be disclosed with written permission of the client. There are exceptions to this law. I am bound by law to break confidentiality in the following circumstances:

 

*Suspected abuse of a child, dependent adult or elder adult – I am mandated by law to report this to appropriate authorities immediately.

 

*A client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person or persons – I am mandated to report this threat to the police and the intended victim.

 

*A client is indicating or threatening to harm themselves – If a client expresses intent to harm themselves, I will make every effort to engage them in a safety plan, which includes notifying appropriate support persons, family, friends and proper authorities if needed.
